Well not exactly, but move over dogs and diamonds…. museums offer a LOT to girls (and boys and men and women and probably aliens too).
It’s like one-stop shopping for culture, eating, and holiday gifts.
Here are some local exhibits and happenings that may get the girl next door out of the house and headed towards her nearest museum:
- “Valentina: American Couture and the Cult of Celebrity,” on view thru May 17th at the Museum of the City of New York. (fyi: Members aren’t the only VIP to get into the museum for free. The museum offers free admission on Sundays between 10 am and 12 pm and if you live or work in East Harlem, the museum is ALWAYS free, just say you’re a neighbor).
- Gallery Talk at the MET: Female Impressionist Artists and Their Mentors: Morisot, Cassatt, Manet, and Degas,” on Friday March 20th 7 pm.
- “The Orchid Show: Brazilian Modern,” on view thru April 12th at the New York Botanical Garden. Be sure to get your tickets in advance!
- “Fashioning Felt,” opening tomorrow and on view thru September 7th at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. While visiting, you may also want to take take a peek at another exhibit about children’s wallpaper and books- ah sweet childhood.
As an incentive to knock the lazy out of me, I will write about my adventures and experiences after visiting these great exhibits/programs.
